Readings for Writers – Weekend Session

With Barbara Turner-Vesselago

Saturday September 25th, 9.30am – 11.30pm AEST,
open to any writers for whom the time suits

Special guest, acclaimed writer, teacher and the mentor who helped me find the page, Barbara Turner-Vesselago will be joining us on Zoom for a very special Reading for Writers – Weekend Session on Saturday September 25th from 9.30am-11.30am, AEST, but feel free to join from where-ever you are.

Barbara will join us to discuss the work in progress of three different writers, focussing on what is working in the writing in a way that will help expand your writing toolkit. There will also be a short discussion and Q&A about Freefall Writing™ to help invigorate your own writing practice.

Having developed the Freefall Writing™ method which has helped hundreds of writers publish fiction, memoir, non-fiction and poetry around the world, Barbara brings unique insight to developing work in progress, with a focus firmly on where the energy is in the writing, or more simply put, seeing and nurturing what is working.

Register to attend

Barbara will join us live from Toronto via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere across Australia, or the world. Weekend Sessions are made avaialable on a pay-what-you-can basis, and, for this special event with Barbara, anyone contributing $20 or more eligible to receive a copy of Writing Without a Parachute: The Art of Freefall which can be sent to you or gifted to another writer.

Register to attend here.

Have your writing read

To have your work read and discussed with Barbara, you just need to enter the lottery. Three writers will ultimately be drawn at random and asked to submit writing of up to ten pages for the Weekend Session.

What to submit

Fiction, memoir or narrative non-fiction.

The writing can be at any stage of development, first draft or fifth, but it must be able to stand alone without any background required for readers or listeners, so I suggest an independent piece of writing or something from the start of your manuscript if it’s longer than ten pages.

Key dates

  • August 2nd – September 15th, Enter the lottery
  • September 16th, Winning writers notified
  • September 20th, Writers to submit their work
  • September 25th, Reading for Writers, with Barbara Turner-Vesselago

Other Reading Sessions

Readings for Writers is a monthly forum where you can have your work read and listen to and provide feedback on the work in progress of other writers. Each session runs for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, during which time I read the work of three writers and discuss what is working in the writing with the group.

Join the Writers Write mail list to for scheduling updates and writer announcements.

How to Talk About Writing

The discussion and feedback given to writers will draw on the Freefall Writing practice and Barbara Turner-Vesselagos “How to Talk About Writing”. The foundation is that with new work, writers benefit greatly from hearing what is working for a reader, and why than from any other type of feedback.

There is more about Freefall and How to Talk About Writing here, and to stay informed about readings, or to send in your work, join the mail list or contact us.

I look forward to having you along,
Kirsten.
